Prayer at MLC
As we approach 2026, many people ask the same question: How do I start the year well?
At Metro Life, we believe the answer begins with putting God first through fasting. Starting the year with a fast creates intentional space to quiet distractions, hear God more clearly, and align our hearts with what He wants to do in the season ahead.
Fasting isn’t about rules or routines—it’s about dependence. While fasting can help reset habits, its true purpose is spiritual alignment. We aren’t simply removing food or activities; we’re removing distractions so we can focus more fully on God.
“Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”
Matthew 4:4
Scripture shows us that fasting can look different depending on season, health, and spiritual direction:
1. Complete Fast
Abstaining from food for a set period (water only).
“Moses was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights without eating bread or drinking water.” Exodus 34:28
2. Partial Fast (Daniel Fast)
Restricting certain foods for a focused time.
“I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips…” Daniel 10:3
3. Digital Fast
In our modern world, removing social media scrolling or time-consuming apps can create mental margin and reduce distractions so we can better hear God. Many choose to replace that time with worship music, Scripture, or Christian podcasts—and as a Metro Life family, we’re blessed to have great in-house options for all of them.
We encourage you to prayerfully ask God which fast is right for you. The heart behind the fast always matters more than the method.
